Travel with us to Germany, France, and Canada as her story unfolds. We follow the path of Jewish refugees from Austria and Germany into Southern France, where Esther’s parents meet and marry in the Gurs Concentration camp and where Esther is born.
Although a toddler by the camp’s liberation in 1945, Esther grew up in an environment marked by generational trauma and the uncertainties of life in the emerging state of Israel, frequently under siege. We follow Esther Topaz’s life, sculpted from complex unique experiences and circumstances, but which led towards the wisdom, self-understanding and insight which later become revealed in a meaningful life as a parent, teacher, loyal friend and gifted artist.

CAMPAIGN GOAL: $20,000
This story is a timely reminder of the importance of resilient voices of clarity and wisdom through the arts in a time of darkness.
The importance of this film lies in several factors: the age of the Holocaust survivor, being born in a concentration camp; the improbable circumstances of her survival; and her ensuing life of finding meaning and value as she deals with the inherited trauma from her parents’ experiences, as well as her own.
Of great value is the examination of Vichy complicity in the Holocaust, an area of study only recently being examined in earnest.
